Filmed on location, each unique and individualized video program provides easy-to-follow chaptered segments on the culture, history, geography, climate and contemporary life of the people and cities of Central America. (Key Concepts Defined)
The Countries Of:
• Belize
From the ancient Maya to the first shipwrecked Brits, Belize has a remarkable and colorful past, and amazingly, they speak English as their official language. From the incredible beaches and remote islands to the dense rain forests, and hiding, yet to be discovered Mayan ruins, Belize is a world away, yet we share the same continent.

• Costa Rica
Costa Rica became an independent country in 1821 with its liberation from Spain. Today a democratic Costa Rica demonstrates great stability in a sometimes troubled region, but it wasn’t always so. Wisely, Costa Rica places a high value on the conservation of its natural resources, through protected areas and national parks that promote and protect nature for all time. It’s this environmental preservation that has helped promote prosperity for the country and made Costa Rica one of the premier Central America destinations for tourists.

• El Salvador
El Salvador is the smallest of the Central American countries, and interestingly, it is the only country in Central America without a coastline on the Caribbean sea. Known as the land of volcanoes, this small country has frequent and sometimes very destructive geologic activity. Today El Salvador is an emerging gem in a unique corner of the North
American continent with a very colorful past that includes ancient Mayan ruins and Spanish conquistadors. A world away, El Salvador shares the North American continent.

• Panama
Each year thousands of people visit the Central American country of Panama to explore its international cities, stroll along its unspoiled beaches, see the Panama Canal, or to just relax among its people. Its colorful Indian heritage is a link to its past, but so too, is the distinctly American flavor of the country. Today the country of Panama offers a unique and diverse hist-ography.

• Guatemala
Guatemala is a country with incredibly diverse geography and rich history. It has an ancient and colorful past. Its history reaches back to the days of Columbus and the discovery of the new world. From the incredible beaches to the top of its volcanoes, Guatemala is a world away from Canada and the United States. Yet it shares the North American continent.

• Honduras
Located south of Mexico, in the middle of the Central American countries, Honduras borders both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Home to about 7 million people, Honduras is a relatively poor country. The Honduran people place a high value on education and the importance of the family unit. Long before Columbus opened the new world to Europeans, Honduras was part of a culture that built great cities, developed written language and erected imposing pyramids to rival those of ancient Egypt. In some ways it is not unlike our own history. It is interesting that so many things are the same yet it is a very different place.

• Nicaragua
Nicaragua is a country with incredibly diverse geography and a tumultuous history, both ancient and colorful. From its rocky Pacific headlands to the inhospitable Mosquito Coast,
Nicaragua is a land immersed in its history. Its people are a diverse blend of Aztec, Maya, South American tribes and the culture reflectsthe ever-present Spanish influence.
