Joan grew up in an alcoholic family where there was physical violence and sexual abuse. She quit high school to get married, but her husband was a drug addict and wife beater. Joan, too, developed a substance abuse problem. Through her artwork, and her children's drawings, Joan tells a personal story of pain, growth and recovery.
