The Tippy Series
Recommended: School Library Journal

Special wholesome stories featuring live people and special muppet-like characters which help children to think about their feelings, evaluate how they feel and help them to learn to make the right decisions when faced with hard to deal with situations.

Drugs Will Drag You Down
The story begins with children and muppet-like characters engaging in healthy outdoor activities; fishing, feeding farm animals, and playing horseshoes. Eventually, Tippy and another boy notice Danny alone, but they suspect that he would really like to have friends. When they ask him to join them he tells them that he has an idea for how to have fun. Alluding to drugs, but referring to them only as a "surprise" for later. He also approaches Jill and offers her drugs, but she is afraid of them and is not sure if the way she turned them down was the best way. Eventually all the characters meet in a group at a barn dance, and Danny makes another offer for his friends to try drugs. It is during this scene that the children learn to say "no" to drugs.

Learning About Touch
Tippy and his friends are on a camping trip with Ms. Sally and Mr. Steve as chaperones. They are having a good time when the question of friendship comes up. GOOD TOUCH and BAD TOUCH is explained, and the children learn three easy, but effective rules for handling BAD TOUCH. Say "STOP!" Don't touch me there!"; "Get Away!"; "Tell Someone!". Tippy and his friends begin to learn that their feelings are okay, and that caring for and showing love to a friend through GOOD TOUCH can be very positive.

Watch Out for Strangers
Tippy and his muppet-like friends are at baseball practice. Upon leaving, Tippy reminds them to "watch out for strangers." John and Jack misunderstand what strangers actually are, assuming them to be like monsters, but Tippy corrects them. When they understand that strangers are people and that they and their parents don't know, the characters begin to talk about encounters that they have had with strangers in the past. After the group discusses the safe ways they handled their encounters, they sing a song to help them remember the important safety points.
